Voltage Measurement and Detection

Voltage Detection General Description

ALTA® Wireless AC Voltage Detection Meters detect the presence or absence of AC voltage up to 500 volts alternating current (VAC) Root Mean Square (RMS).

Key Features (for 500 VAC Model)

  • Detects presence or absence of voltage

  • Maximum detection voltage: 500 VAC RMS

  • Minimum detection voltage: 4 VAC RMS

  • Triggers on state change

  • Response time: ~ 1 second

Key Features (for 200 VDC Model)

  • Detects presence or absence of voltage

  • Maximum detection voltage: 200 VDC

  • Minimum detection voltage: 2.3 VDC

  • Triggers on state change

  • Reverse voltage protection up to 200 VDC

Principles of Operation

The ALTA Wireless 500 AC Voltage Detection Meter can be connected to the hot (black) and neutral (white) terminals of an electrical device or power supply line. The sensor will trigger on the state change from voltage presence to absence and vice versa.

When a state change is detected, the sensor reports its state? No Voltage or Voltage Detected? to the gateway, making the data available in iMonnit or another approved data service. If no change is observed within the user-configurable time interval or Heartbeat, the state is continuously reported on that interval.

200VDC Voltage Meter General Description

ALTA® Wireless 200 VDC Voltage Meters measure DC voltage up to 200 VDC on user specified intervals.

Key Features

  • Measures voltage up to 200 VDC

  • Resolution: 0.1 Volts

  • Accuracy:

  •   - Uncalibrated: ± (0.1 Volts + 1% of reading)

  •   - Calibrated: ± (0.05 Volts + 0.5% of reading)

  • Configurable thresholds for critical condition monitoring

Principles of Operation

The ALTA Wireless 200 VDC Voltage Meter measures the single-ended DC voltage across its two leads based on a user-configurable time interval or Heartbeat. On every Heartbeat, the sensor converts the analog voltage signal to a digital voltage measurement. This measurement is then sent to the gateway, making the data available in iMonnit or another approved data service.

The ALTA 200 VDC Voltage Meter can be calibrated for improved accuracy. Also, remember to remove any active voltages from the measurement leads when replacing batteries or performing other maintenance.

500VAC Voltage Meter General Description

ALTA® Wireless 500 AC Voltage Meters measure the voltage of an AC power system in volts alternating current (VAC) Root Mean Square (RMS) on user-specified intervals. The meter can measure up to 500 VAC RMS.

Key Features

  • Measures voltage up to 500 VAC RMS

  • Resolution: 0.1 VAC RMS

  • Accuracy:

  •   - Uncalibrated: ± (1 Volt + 2% of reading)

  •   - Calibrated: ± (0.5 Volt + 1% of reading)

  • Configurable thresholds for critical condition monitoring

The ALTA Wireless 500 AC Voltage Meter measures the single-ended AC voltage across its two leads based on a user-configurable time interval or Heartbeat. On every Heartbeat, the sensor converts the analog voltage signal to a digital voltage measurement.
